I just started using Pidgin for Instant Messaging. It's open source and free, and doesn't include any ads or garbage that AOL puts in, and that I see a lot of people running on their comp. One of the best things is the built in autocorrect that turns things like "y" into "why" so you don't look like a 14 year old girl TXTing when you're talking to people. Plus it's got a cool pigeon for the logo. You can import any instant messaging account (AOL, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) Get it here.
